Real Estate

For more information about textbooks, syllabi, advising, TREC requirements, and other useful information for courses in Real Estate see: http://www.austincc.edu/rele/

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS AND COSTS

Texas has only two real estate license – a Broker license and a Sales license. If you hold either license you can perform all real estate activities for which a license is required. The difference between the two licenses is that a holder of a sales license can only perform real estate activities under the sponsorship (and supervision) of someone who holds a broker license.

In Texas a person must be at least 18 years of age, a Texas resident, demonstrate integrity, satisfy certain educational requirements, and pass a state examination to receive a license.
http://www.trec.state.tx.us/index.asp TREC

A minimum of 210 classroom hours of instruction is required to sit for the Texas Real Estate Sales Licensing Exam. 150 hours must be in real estate. In addition there are three mandatory real estate courses that must be taken. To earn credit you must attend 90% of the class hours and take the required exams. If you are an in-district student the Principles of Real Estate 1406 course will cost $252.00 plus books. The Law of Agency 2301 and Law of Contracts 1311 courses are each $189.00 plus books. That's $630.00 tuition for the three mandatory courses (plus books). (These are the 3 courses that are mandated and will give you the knowledge to pass the TREC exam).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION You may substitute MRKG 1311, Principles of Marketing for RELE 1321, Real Estate Marketing.

Government

The government department strongly recommends that students complete ENGL 1301 or the equivalent with a grade of C or higher prior to enrolling in GOVT 2305 or GOVT 2306.

Potential Distance Learning Students -- If you are considering taking a Government Distance Learning course, you should first take the "Learning Style Self-Assessment" test prior to committing to this type of class. This assessment could help you determine if you have the potential to do well in a distance learning class or whether an in-class experience might better suit you. The link to the "Learning Style Self Assessment" test is http://www.austincc.edu/govtdept/SelfAssess.html
